🎥 Mike Rowe is Back — and He’s Got People You Should Know
From the creator of Returning the Favor comes a new series celebrating the quiet heroes of America, starting with a single mom named Lenzy Phillips who turned her life—and dozens of others’ around.
👋 Welcome Back to the Front Porch
If you've been missing the heart, grit, and neighborly goodness of Returning the Favor, you're not alone. Mike Rowe heard the call and answered with a brand new series called People You Should Know.
This isn’t a reboot. It’s a spiritual successor. Think of it as Returning the Favor’s wiser, more personal cousin. The mission remains the same: highlight the everyday Americans doing extraordinary things in their own backyards.
📍 Episode One: Meet Lenzy Phillips
“There’s a long list of people you should know,” Rowe says. “Lenzy is one of them.”
The first episode centers around Lenzy Phillips, a single mom from Kansas City whose life could have gone very differently. Battling meth addiction, she came close to losing everything, including her children. But thanks to the support of CarePortal, a platform that connects churches with families in crisis, Lenzy found her footing.
CarePortal, is available to all. If you have a need, they want to find a way to fix it for you. They don’t care about who or what you believe in, they simply want to take the love Jesus gave them and share it with others through practical helping, no catches, no fish hooks, just people helping people.
Not only did she keep her family together, she’s now working full-time for the organization that helped save her life. To date, Lenzy has helped more than 50 families avoid the heartbreak of separation.
💬 A Series Rooted in What Really Matters
People You Should Know strips storytelling down to what matters: humanity, honesty, and hope.
Where Returning the Favor often surprised folks with a check or a community celebration, People You Should Know spends more time walking alongside the subject, sharing their scars, their setbacks, and their wins. It’s slower. It’s deeper. It’s Rowe, matured, but still cracking jokes and wielding his signature blend of sincerity and sarcasm.
“This isn’t a show,” Rowe says in the video. “It’s a tribute.”
Why This Series Matters Now
In a world that feels increasingly divided, People You Should Know offers a simple reminder: the best of us often go unnoticed. And they don’t need fame they need a microphone. Rowe gives it to them.
Lenzy’s story is not polished. It’s raw, real, and incredibly redemptive. And it reminds us that second chances aren’t just possible—they’re powerful.
